The Great Colorado Payback holds over $2.5 billion in unclaimed assets. This money comes from inactive bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, stock dividends, and utility deposits. When businesses lose contact with owners for three to five years, they must turn the funds over to the state.
The database contains more than 16.5 million names. The state processes approximately 86,000 claims each year worth nearly $80 million. Average claims pay $1,832. Amounts range from a few dollars to thousands.
The City of Commerce City provides local services but directs all unclaimed property searches to the state program.

Adams County Connection
Commerce City is in Adams County. The county treasurer manages property taxes but not unclaimed property from private sources. The treasurer office is at 4430 S Adams County Pkwy in Brighton.

Most claims take 90 to 120 days. When approved, they mail a check.
